Boat building in Uruguay
This is the 'Stancomb Wills' under construction in Montevideo Uruguay. This boat is one of three built for filming of the Shackleton adventure in Antarctica. These boats were taken aboard ship to the actual locations of Ernest Shackleton's famous boat voyage to escape the Antarctic ice. These boats were built very quickly to suit the production schedule. The boats were built in Uruguay because, though it took only 24 hours to fly down a boatbuilder, the production schedule didn't allow time to build and ship the boats from our shop in the US. I accompanied the movie production to train the actors to handle the boats and look like seasoned boatmen while doing it. See her in action here.
